FAQ
Does Resolution 5477 require a health policy for every visa category?
No. Resolution 5477 sets requirements by category; it does not impose one uniform policy requirement for every visa. Articles 34 (V Tourist), 36 (V Student), 46 (V Digital Nomad) and 77 (M Pensioner) contain specific rules. Confirm which article applies and check the current list before buying. Resolution 5477 of 2022 · Visa types.
What should I check in a policy against my visa requirement?
Check that the policy matches the territory in Colombia, the risks named in the applicable article and the intended period of stay. The text reviewed does not set a universal minimum insured amount or deductible, or automatically accept every commercial policy. Compare the written policy terms with the requirement for your category. Read Resolution 5477.
What does Article 34 require for the V Tourist visa?
Article 34 describes a health policy in Colombia for the listed risks during the intended stay. The policy does not replace the category’s other documents: Cancillería includes inbound and outbound ticket reservations among the requirements, and Migration may request an outbound ticket on arrival. Check the current list before applying. Resolution 5477 · Visa-category requirements.
What health-coverage options does Article 77 allow for an M Pensioner visa?
Article 77 allows applicants to prove health coverage in Colombia or provide a policy with territorial coverage and the listed risks for the intended stay. It separately addresses the holder’s affiliation to Colombia’s Social Security System, with an exception for applicable bilateral or multilateral agreements. A policy does not, by itself, establish EPS affiliation. Review Cancillería’s M Pensioner visa page and the regulation.
What health and income requirements apply to the V Digital Nomad visa?
Article 46 describes a policy for the listed risks, with coverage in Colombia during the intended stay. The category also requires proof of income of at least 3 SMLMV during the preceding three months. Do not assume EPS affiliation replaces the policy; check the current category requirements. Resolution 5477 · Visa types.
What should a V Student visa applicant check?
Cancillería names the category V Student, not M Student. Article 36 addresses a policy and academic documents; the exact list can vary by application route. Check the program, application route and current documents on the V Student visa page and in Resolution 5477.
Does having a health policy mean I am enrolled in Colombia’s Social Security System?
No. A policy provides coverage under its terms; enrollment in the social-security system is a separate status. Article 77 has a specific rule about affiliation for M Pensioner visa holders, subject to applicable international agreements; do not generalize that rule to other categories. Review Article 77 of Resolution 5477.
Is an international travel policy automatically accepted for a Colombian visa?
Do not assume automatic acceptance. Compare the visa category, coverage in Colombia, listed risks and required period with the policy wording and current checklist. The regulation reviewed does not set a universal minimum insured amount or deductible. Resolution 5477 · Visa types.
Does buying a policy guarantee visa approval?
No. The competent Visa and Immigration Authority makes the decision; buying a policy or plan does not guarantee approval. Paying the study fee is not a favorable decision either. Review Cancillería’s visa application guide and meet the other applicable requirements.
How long can a visa decision take after I submit a complete application?
Cancillería’s application guide reports up to 30 calendar days once documents are complete and the study fee has been paid; the period may be extended if consultations are needed. This is an administrative reference, not a guaranteed decision date or promise of approval. Read the official visa application guide.
What should I confirm in writing before paying for a plan?
Confirm the product and insured person, term, territory, included risks and benefits, exclusions, applicable financial conditions, issued documents and final price. Actual coverage depends on the issued policy and written quote, not a FAQ or general description. Review the payment methods and instructions.
Where can I check current requirements and request a quote?
Check Cancillería’s current category page and procedure; a policy quote does not replace the visa application or decision. For payment methods, review the payment channels; for a current quote, use the quote form or contact CoVisas on WhatsApp. Visa types · Application guide.
